re: termination of parental rights

Dear Joyce,

The Clearinghouse distributes two publications that may be of assistance to
you in determining the number of cases resulting in the termination of
parental rights. While the data is not available from all States, Child
Maltreatment 1998: Reports from the States to the National Child Abuse and
Neglect Data System (NCANDS), has a section, "Children Who Were Removed from
the Home, By Disposition. The second publication, recently released, is
Child Welfare Outcomes 1998: Annual Report. This report includes TPR data
from 29 States. Hard copies of both of these reports are available, free of
charge from the Clearinghouse via our toll-free number, (800) 394-3366, or
by e-mail addressed to: nccanch@calib.com. For your convenience, both of
these publications are available in full text on the Children's Bureau web
site at: http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cb/. For your information, Child
Maltreatment 1998... is approximately 80 pages in length and Child Welfare
Outcomes... is approximately 350 pages in length.

I hope that this information is helpful.

Sincerely,
Sandi McLeod, Special Initiatives
