Re: Guterman's article
In response to Ms. Claire's request, I would be more than happy to forward
a reprint (or reprints), although I'm not sure which one on early
prevention is being requested... Is it one these below?:
Guterman, N. B. (1999). Enrollment strategies in early home visitation to
prevent physical child abuse and neglect and the "universal versus
targeted" debate: A meta-analysis of population-based and screening-based
programs, Child Abuse and Neglect, 23(9), 863-890.
Guterman, N. B. (1997). Early prevention of physical child abuse and
neglect: Existing evidence and future directions, Child Maltreatment,
2(1), 5-28.
Do let me know and I'll be happy to respond. By the way a book that
significantly expands and updates the above articles as well as presents
substantial new material on early maltreatment prevention & home
visitation is scheduled for release October 15. I believe it is
available online directly from Sage Publications ("Stopping Child
Maltreatment Before It Starts"). Best,

I am a post-bachelor student and I also work full time coordinating a child abuse prevention program "Kids'n'You" based Discursive / post-structuralist / feminist ideas, and offer a comprehensive range of services - home visiting, Drop-In (with structured conversations and guest speakers), counselling, Groups using social constructionist ideas, Peer supporter training, and then use these "volunteers" to link back with families. We are quite small in staffing - coordinator, social worker, child care worker and admin person. Funded thru the government community health services. Based in an area with a history of compound disadvantage.
