Dear Carolyn,
       There are a few scales that assess a range of maltreatment
experiences - but it depends on how extensive is your definition of
'maltreatment' .  One good scale is the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire
which assesses physical and emotional abuse, physical and emotional
neglect, and sexual abuse, but does not assess exposure to family violence.
     see Bernstein et al (1994). Initial reliability and validity of a new
retrospective measure of child abuse and neglect.
          American Journal of Psychiatry, 151, 1132-1136.
       With a colleague here at Deakin, I have also developed two measures -
one for use with adults retrospectively reporting on their childhood
experiences, and another for use with parents describing their children's
experiences.  It measures five types: sexual abuse, physical abuse,
psychological maltreatment, neglect, and witnessing family violence.
