NPR Story on CPS Investigations by Law Enforcemnt in Florida
NPR's Morning Edition reported today and yesterday on Florida's use of Law
Enforcement personnel to investigate CPS cases.
Here are NPR's descriptions of the two stories:
04/24/00:
"New Law Enforcement Duties -- In the first of two stories, NPR's Eric
Westervelt reports on a pilot program in Florida, in which law enforcement
officers investigate child abuse and neglect complaints, a task that usually is
handled by social workers and health officials in most states. (7:30)"
04/25/00:
"Child Abuse Investigators -- NPR's Eric Westervelt has the second of two
reports on law enforcement officers investigating child abuse and neglect. Four
counties in Florida are experimenting with the concept of having police
investigate child abuse. But many are worried about the police involvement
claiming that this could set a dangerous precedent.(7:29)"
The stories can be listened to via the internet through
