RE: Child Abuse Registry Check

	The state Virginia has a CANIS, Child and Neglect Information
System, which houses the Virginia abusers/neglectors only. You can call
1800/552-7096 to get a registry form. However, to check the registry on
George Q. Public, he must sign the registry form. Only CPS agencies have
direct accesss to the information. And please remember that findings are
kept in the system at various lengths of time in Virginia, dependent upon
the level of abuse (3 years, 7 years, 18 years). Serveral years ago all
findings were kept 10 years past the victim's 18th birthday.
