re: placement within extended families
Dear Clara,
The National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information has a
couple of resources to offer to you on the issue of placing children within
extended families.
Late last year, the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services released a
report entitled Children Placed in Foster Care with Relatives: A
Multi-state Study, available in both a final report and an executive
summary. Topics included in this document are: the demographic
characteristics of children in relatives versus nonrealtive care, workers
and foster care providers' practices and experiences, and findings and
implications. Please contact the Clearinghouse for ordering information.
Via our web site, we have several annotated bibliographies covering
placement issues such as family foster care, kinship care, and permanency
planning. Please visit our site at http://www.calib.com/nccanch; click on
the icon for "Publications", select Bibliographies, and scroll the list for
the desired title/s.
Please let me know if we can be of further assistance to you.
Sincerely,
Sandi McLeod, Coordinator, Customer Services
