Senior Level Social Science Researcher
The American Bar Association Center on Children and the Law is recruiting
applicants for a full time, senior level social science research position in
its Washington, D.C. office.
The Center on Children and the Law, a program of the ABA, seeks to promote
the well being of America's youth through advances in law and policy. It is
supported by grants from public and private entities and has a professional
staff of over 20. The senior level social science research position will
work primarily under a federally funded grant that provides technical
assistance and training to child welfare agencies and courts around the
nation. Specifically, the individual will design, conduct and manage
research concerning the performance of state courts in child abuse and
neglect and other topics related to children and the law.
Other responsibilities include: writing up research findings for
professional journals and as part of Center books and manuals; providing
technical assistance on evaluation of court performances and processes;
selecting and managing personnel and subcontractors to aid in carrying out
research projects; developing grant proposals; and consulting with other
Center research staff on various projects..
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and at least three years post
doctoral experience in child welfare, juvenile justice, or justice
system-related research. Candidates should also have demonstrated knowledge
and experience in research design and methodology, SPSS, data analysis, and
grant development. Should also have solid writing and oral communications
skills; computer literacy, and supervisory skills. The candidate must also
be able to travel in support of this position. This position is supported
by a five year, federally funded grant (1999-04).
