R: Childhood development
Did you check their cognitive and neurological status (also with EEG, MRI
etc.) ? It would also be important to gather reliable information on their
medical (and nutritional) history and on lead exposure. It is well known,
since many years, that malnutrition in the early periods of life brings
about later cognitive damage, which may take many different forms ; lead is
also a cause of neuropsychological damage, leading to abnormal behavior.
Not to speak of later effects of milder forms of SBS.

I have a foster parent that is having difficulty with her 4 and 5 year old
children and their destructiveness. The destructiveness appears to come
more from lack of understanding cause and effect than from anger. These
children have come from a neglectful situation and I feel the
developmentally delay they have is a major factor in their behavior.
My question is: Is there any literature or a website that I could find to
help in understanding the behavior of neglected children and methods of
helping them learn to function better in their environment. These folks
are wanting to adopt these children so I am really wanting to give them as
much information as possible to help the deal with the years ahead.
