Re: The Ezzo's
Dear Peter -
There is actually quite a bit of information about the Ezzos. Perhaps
the most informed person so far is Matthew Aney, a pediatrician in
Southern California who has been tracking the incidents of emergency
room visits for failure to thrive. The Ezzo's (authors of Babywise and
its Christian counterpart Raising Kids God's Way) advocate a strict
feeding and sleeping schedule from birth, including making newborns wait
a full four hours between feedings, letting them cry for the entire
interval, if need be.
Babywise is co-written by a pediatrician, but I've heard that attempts
to get their research evidence have been unsucessful. Babywise is a very
popular book and most major bookstores carry multiple copies. Many feel
that his approaches are ill-founded and even dangerous. I'll be
interested to see what other members of the list have heard about him.
You can email Dr. Aney at aneybody@aol.com he has a comprehensive packet
of information that he can mail out. You can also find some discussion
of Ezzo's practices on the web.
Good Luck,
Macall Gordon
