Your query

Dear Karen Swales,
Your message concerning Developmental Delay ande abuse was
forwarded to me by Murray and Addie Levine. I am sorry that I` cannot be
of any help to you - I wish that I could help. Infact I have tried to
search the literature on abuse-DD and so far have found that it seems to
focus on the often-reported finding that persons with disabilities are
prone for risk of abuse, bhild and adult abuse. In a few months I will
again search the literatureas I prepare a chapter section on this topic
in a forthcoming textbook on Developmental Disabilities. I will be happy
tom share with you whatever I find.
In the meantime I wish you success on your project, and hope you
will keep in touch - I will be very interested in what you find.
About the only thing I can say with reasonable confidence is to
caution you about use of "facillitated communication" with persons with
language disabilities - e.g., language deficient persons
with autism and/or mental retardation.
