Re: Experience of domestic violence among Asian women
Perhaps the following resources would be helpful
Union of Pan Asian Communities in southern california (San Diego?) has
extensive services and programs for Asian battered women and their
families--they work with DOZENS of languages
Khmer Health Advocates in Hartford, CT, HAS serveD Cambodian families
for 15 years
and the following chapters also discuss battering:
Okamura, A., Heras, P., & Wong-Kerberg, L. (1995). Asian Pacific Island,
and Filipino Americans and child sexual abuse. In L. Fontes, (Ed), Sexual
Abuse in Nine North American Cultures: Treatment and Prevention. Sage.
and in the same book there is a chapter by M. Scully, T. Kuoch & R. Miller
on Cambodians and sexual abuse.
As part of their series of books on battering Seal Press in Seattle has a
book by and for Filipina battered women (I believe it's called Breaking
Free but I cannot find it at the moment)
and the July 99 (vol 25, #3) issue of the Journal of Marital and Family
Therapy has two articles on domestic violence and culture, as well as
several others on domestic violence more generally.
Good luck!
