<DIV><FONT size=2>&gt;I would also like to learn of model treatment programs or

college-level assistance programs for young adults who are experiencing

difficulty with the transition to adulthood because of a history of abuse.

<BR>(Are there programs, for example, specializing in the transition to college

for children in foster care?)&nbsp; I welcome suggestions for measures and

reviews I might not have seen. &lt;</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>In my community we are about to begin an innovative program

that is still in the making but which proposes to address the above issue. I am

an alcohol and drug counselor at a local community court school which comprises

175 at risk youth, with backgrounds of family substance abuse, violence,

physical and sexual abuse, neglect and so on. </FONT></DIV>

<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>The local community college has onsite, a medi-cal licensed

alcohol and drug treatment program. We are putting together a package for our

community school to hook up as a satellite site to provide comprehensive

treatment for our youth, we will begin transitioning them on to college

beginning in their junior year of high school, enrolling them in a life

management class while continuing treatment. While they graduate from high

school and move on to college they will continue treatment if necessary and will

continue to have the support during their first two years of college while

issues of family dysfunction and substance abuse are addressed. </FONT></DIV>

<DIV>&nbsp;</DIV>

<DIV><FONT size=2>I believe this is the first program of it's kind. I am hoping

we will be able to qualify for enough funding to reach our entire population of

175 youth to assist with various components of the program.</FONT></DIV>
