re: attachment disorders/biology
I just bought Dan Siegel's (UCLA) new book 1999 "The Developing Mind, Toward a neurobiology of interpersonal experience" (Guilford). Looks terrific, but haven't read it yet.
Alan Shore (also UCLA) also does research in this area. A recent paper "The Experience-Dependent maturation of a regulatory system in the orbital prefrontal cortex and the origin of developmental psychopathology" is in Development and Psychopathology 8:59-87, 1996.
"Ghosts from the Nursery, Tracing the roots of violence" , by Robin Karr-Morse and Meredith Wiley, while more of an armchair approach, in the style of Bruce Perry (who also has a recent book out) has some great sections on attachment issues and tracks research in the area that supports their theoritical approach. The title obviously borrows from Selma Fraiberg.
Also track the Neglect literature in this area.

Subject: attachment disorders
Hi, fellow child health enthusiasts:
I am just linking up with this list and have found the topic on attachment
most interesting. I am a graduate student in counseling/psychology and
just beginning to seriously give thought to my final document. My area of
interest is the biochemical effects of childhood trauma on a child's
personality development. This is rather broad and have been considering
doing research in the area of attachment and day-care.
With so many primary caregivers having to go to work today, many infants
and toddlers on spending much of their time in a multi-child care facility
where there is limited one-on-one interaction. Does anyone on this list
have any suggestions on where to find possible information on research
being done on the effects of this type of child-rearing on attachment
and/or ultimate personality development, particularly research on possible
links to brain chemistry influence which may lead to personality disorders.
I would appreciate any help or suggestions anyone can give me.
