CALL FOR PAPERS
Focus Section on Cultural Issues in Child Abuse and Neglect
Guest Editors: Lisa Fontes, Ph.D. & Joseph Youngblood
Child Maltreatment, the Journal of the American Professional Society on
the Abuse of Children is soliciting submissions for an upcoming focus
section on cultural issues in child abuse and neglect. The goals of the
section are to broaden scientific knowledge, suggest directions for
practice and public policy, and identify key research issues related to
the role of culture in child maltreatment and child maltreatment
intervention.
The journal seeks original empirical research contributions; scholarly,
policy or legal analyses; or descriptions of innovative practice or
intervention programs describing the application of culturally-based
models and associated outcomes. Submissions might include, but are not
limited to:
- culture-specific disciplinary practices and their relationship to
physical child abuse
- culture-specific contexts of sexual child abuse
- the validity or cultural sensitivity of child abuse research methods
and assessment instruments
- analyses of current public policy or law
- innovative responses and interventions with people from specific or
diverse cultural groups
- cross-cultural comparisons on specific issues in child maltreatment
- the effects of racism and discrimination on child maltreatment
intervention
- cultural issues in child neglect and emotional abuse
We welcome submissions that concern specific cultural groups as well as
submissions that are multicultural; and interdisciplinary submissions
as well as submissions in specific disciplines.
Manuscripts should be limited to 30 double-spaced pages, including
references, tables and figures. Style must follow the 4th edition of
the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association. The
author's name and affiliation should appear on a separate cover page and
information identifying the author(s) should be removed to allow for
anonymous review.
Please submit five copies of the manuscript, accompanied by a cover
letter indicating that the manuscript is being submitted for the focus
section on cultural issues and that the manuscript has neither been
previously published nor is under simultaneous consideration elsewhere.
