RE: Childhood Trauma

John March and I published a paper last year  on a cognitive-behavioral treatment package for schools for kids suffering PTSD from incidents like you describe.  (March, Amaya-Jackson, Murray, Schulte. (1998) "Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy for children and adolescents with posttraumatic stress disorder after a single-incident stressor" J Am Acad Child Adolesc Psychiatry, 37 (6) 585-593.  That was year one data.  Year 2 and 3 of the study was spent shortening the protocol from 18 sessions to 13, making it more developmentally friendly, and testing it in not only group but individual format across more diverse traumas both in schools and in our trauma center (with data supporting efficacy).

We are in the processing of revising the manual for a) use in new grant submission b) dissemination.  When it is available it will be put on Dr. March's web site for Pediatric Anxiety Disorders and the one we are in process of creating for the Center for Child & Family Health, NC. I am beginning to develop a project seeking to offer therapeutic intervention 
to children who have been traumatised by a variety of different incidents, 
but not due to Sexual & Physical abuse. Without wanting in any way to suggest 
that there are sufficient services for such children, there does seem to be 
something of a gap in provision for children who have been traumatised by:

Suicide of a parent/carer
Accident causing loss of mobility, sight, etc.
Acts of extreme violence witnessed outside the home (Violent robbery/extreme 
public disorder)

I am interested in links with Post Traumatic Stress Condition

I know that this is a vast and somewhat diverse area but would be interested 
in comments, reading, etc.
