For a thorough discussion of the applicability of human rights law to
corporal punishment of children everyone should read "Spare the Rod,
Embrace Our Humanity: Toward a New Legal Regime Prohibiting Corporal
Punishment of Children" by Professor Susan Bitensky, University of
Michigan Journal of Law Reform, Vol 31, No.2, 1998 (pp. 353-474). It
is available by calling the journal at 734 763-6100. We brought
Professor Bitensky to campus (Old Dominion University) and had a
packed houses to hear her presentation and participate in a
discussion of the educational value and practice of a human rights
perspective on children.
