Definitions of maltreatment for surveillance purposes
I am interested in recent discussions or papers concerning the manner in
which child maltreatment has been or could be defined, to aid in the
collection of surveillance data. For example, child welfare definitions are
the most common, and they aid in surveillance of protective service reports.
However, these definitions often are not as applicable to other settings,
such as hospitals, practitioners, and others, who may be in a position to
provide data on unreported or suspected forms of makltreatment. I am
wondering if there is a position paper or similar document that provides some
thoughtful guidance on approaching the operational definition of maltreatment
for settings other than child protection.
Thanks
