Post-doctoral position openings



FELLOWSHIPS IN PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY AND CHILD MALTREATMENT

University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

The Pediatric Psychology training program at the University of Oklahoma
Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) is currently seeking applicants for five or
more fellowship positions.  This large and well-established training program
includes a ten-member faculty, a psychology internship, and nine
post-doctoral fellows.  A wide range of opportunities are available in
behavioral medicine and child maltreatment.  Fellows at the OUHSC pursue
both a major area of activity, determined by the position chosen, and a
minor area at the fellow's discretion.  All positions involve clinical
services, research, and teaching/supervision.  Specific positions currently
open include:

Adolescent Medicine: There is one position available in this area.  In this
position, the fellow provides consultation to physicians and residents, as
well as direct psychological services to patients.  The fellow also provides
education to medical residents who rotate through the Adolescent Medicine
Clinic, participates in an HIV/AIDS prevention intervention project, and
participates in the Consultation and Liaison team for Children's Hospital.  

Hematology-Oncology:  There is one position available in this area.  In this
position the fellow provides psychological (both outpatient and inpatient)
services to patients of the Jimmy Everest Center for Children with Cancer
and Blood Disorders.  The fellow also participates in the Consultation and
Liaison team for Children's Hospital.  

General Pediatric Psychology: There is one position available in this area.
In this position the fellow provides psychological services to children with
medical disorders in Children's Hospital through the Consultation and
Liaison Team.  The fellow also sees outpatients through the Child Outpatient
Service in the Dept. of Psychiatry.  The fellow may also choose additional
medical specialty clinics with which to work.  

Fellowship in work with high-risk or abusive parents:  There are 1-2
positions available in this area.  Fellows in this position are able to be
part of two federally-funded clinical research programs with high-risk
parents and their children.  Supervised experience in behavioral parent
training with high-risk parents, group therapy with children who have been
physically abused, group therapy based on Motivational
Interviewing/Transtheoretical Model techniques, working with both physically
abusive parents of young children and parents of substance-exposed infants
are provided.  Supervisors:  Barbara L. Bonner, PhD, Mark Chaffin, PhD,
Beverly Funderburk, PhD, Jane Silovsky, PhD, & Steve Ondersma, PhD.  

General Fellowship in Child Abuse and Neglect: There is one position
available in this area.  In this position, the fellow participates in a wide
range of clinical, research, and educational activities related to child
maltreatment.  Clinically, this fellow is able to work with a range of
children and families, with an emphasis on work with children with sexual
behavior problems and the use of behavioral parent training with high-risk
families.  Research projects can be either generated by the fellow or by the
faculty who provides major supervision.  Finally, this fellow participates
provides coordination for the Interdisciplinary Training Program in child
abuse and neglect (ITP).  Supervisors:  Barbara Bonner, PhD, Jane Silovsky,
