Deafness
I'm a grad. student in the area of Communication Sciences and Disorders and
am doing a professional paper related to the lack of parental involvement in
the education of deaf children. (hearing parents with deaf child) Can
refusal to learn a handicapped child's natural language (sign language)
constitute a form of abuse or neglect? (assuming the parent makes no other
attempt at real communication, virutally ignoring the child) What if a
parent does not furnish or assist in the use of proper amplification
(hearing aids) to a small child hindering the child from learning any
language he may be able to detect through those aids? I'd like to hear your
oppinions. Anyone know of any legal cases I could site in regard to
non-communitation between parent and child?
Thanks,
SK
