Gender and violence

I'd appreciate it if people on this list have some suggestions about studies 
looking at why people use violence.  I've done a search of the child abuse data 
base looking for etiology of physical abuse and found very little (using a 
broad range of terms, I got 557 hits, of which 10 were vaguely 
usable).  I'm particularly interested in gender differences, but I can use 
almost anything at this stage.
