Hello all. I am a CPS worker specializing in domestic violence issues.
I would like to know if anyone out would have any research or leads on
instances where CPS has been or is coordinating with Battered Women's
Shelters where they both "share" a family. I would also like to know if
anyone has ever heard of a specialized "unit" in CPS that only deals with
domestic violence cases.
Thanks,
Brian Ingram, MSSW
I am a research asssitant on a project at the University of
Minnesota's School of Social Work. The PI's on the project are
Drs. Jeffrey Edleson and Sandra Beeman both in the SSW.
We are directly working on this topic at this time. Currently
we are interviewing mothers who have been battered where
their children lived with them at the time of the battering and
looking at a variety of variables, but of great interest in service
response. One of our goals is to look at various models of
collaboration of services between DV service providers and CPS
agencies. We have gathered a great deal of information about what is
happening around the country from various sources.
One collaboration is happeing in your state - I believe from your
email address - Texas. The Family Place in Dallas Texas has a
liaison with their local CPS agency. Contact: The Family Place:
Safe Home Outreach/Supportive Living Program, 214-443-7766.
I actually will be in Dallas tomorrow, Thurs. Sept. 3 as the Family
Place is collaborating agency on our research along with sites in
Pittsburgh, Santa Clara County CA, and here in Minneapolis. Please
feel free to contact me directly.
Sincerely,
Annelies Hagemeister, MA
