CA welfare reform and related evaluation inventory
We are developing an inventory of California-specific welfare reform and
related evaluations that are underway or will soon be started. Our goal is
to achieve broad base research participation in a survey to inventory such
studies, and invite such researchers to a mid-September seminar on this
topic. Please contact us immediately if you or anyone you know is
evaluating a component of welfare reform. I am aware that Rand Corporation
will be conducting the statewide evaluation; our interest is in learning of
any other evaluations that focus on all or part of California .
The California Family Impact Seminar (CAFIS), a family policy education
project of the State Library's California Research Bureau, provides forums
and background briefing reports on selected family policy issues for state
officials and staff. The goal of the project is to contribute to the
development of sound state family policies by providing research-based
information in a neutral setting and promoting dialogue among state
stakeholders and experts.
To participate in the survey, please contact us before August 7, 1998. A
questionnaire will be mailed to you immediately, along with an invitation to
the mid-September seminar.

Survey responses will inventoried and included in the forthcoming CAFIS
publication, _Welfare Reform Evaluation: Measuring Child and Family Well
Being_. This report is for use by California's state and local program and
policy officials, researchers, and others who are interested in learning
about measuring the short and long term impacts of welfare reform on
children and families. The full report will be available on the World Wide
Web within a few weeks of its publication in September, and a copy of the
inventory will be sent to all survey respondents.
Thank you.
