Rob'

Re my 25% figure for reabuse.

The 25% figure comes from our foster care study published in 1985. Of the
children not placed in foster care, 25% of the substantiated kids were
re-reported and substantiated over an average of 7 years of follow-up.
(Twelve percent of the foster kids were re-reported; 1/2 were reabused on
home vists and 1/2 by the foster parents.)

The data from our LONGSCAN project in Seattle (Diana English PI) found
that 300 reported children turned into over 1900 new reports after 4 years.
I don't recall how many were re-substantiated but I will ask Diana.

Obviously, picking out the re-reports in a substantiated or even reported
sample is a different kettle of fish than picking out likely abuse vicitms
in a large population of kids.
