Managed care approach to child welfare services -Reply
Fred Wulczyn of the Chapin Hall Center for Children and Columbia
University has done quite a bit of work in the managed care and
foster care area (particularly in New York City). You might want to
look up some of his work.

As was mentioned in a recent message, child welfare services have
been
privatized in Kansas. I am proposing a research study to examine the
impact of managed care/privatization on the well being of children
with
disabilities in foster care with regard to the implementation of the
Adoption and Safe Families Act of 1997.
I am interested in your input regarding:
- other states that use a managed care approach for any type of child
welfare services
- children with disabilities in foster care (including
emotional/behavioral disorders)
- other research in this area
- ways to evaluate the unintended consequences of a policy
- any other suggestions or ideas that you have
I am in the very early stages of this process so my ideas are still
very
fuzzy. I appreciate any comments or suggestions that you can offer.
Thank you.
