JOB OPENING AT CENTER FOR SOCIAL SERVICES RESEARCH

The Department of Social Welfare at Univerisity of California, BerkelEy has
received approval to hire an associate specialist.  The appointment will
last one year beinning 6/1/98.  The position will be 100% time.  It will be
funded through a division of the Center for Social Services Research.  This
division is The Bay Area Social Services Consortium (BASSC).

**Title**:  Associate Specialist

**Duties and Responsibilities**:  Program evaluation and survey research
using qualitative and quantitive methods.  Lead research teams
investigationg local county social services, including topics related to
welfare, child welfare, and adult services.  Direct the efforts of graduate
students in research methodology, data collections, analysis, and report
writing.  Write complex technical reports and articles for refereed journals
and lay audiences, communicating findings from these studies.  Present at
local and state meetings and conferences.

**Qualifications Required**:  Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Social Welfare
or related field and substantive knowledge of social services systems
preferred.  Research administration experience preferred.  Knowledge of
process and outcomes evaluation methods.  Knowledge of SAS or SPSS.  Strong
writing and analytical skills.  Evidence of leadership conducting
significant research projects.

**Salary Range**:  $41,820 - $50,364/year, depending on qualifications.

**Approximate Starting Date**: 6/1/98

**Total Duration of Appointment**:  Initial appointment for 12 months;
reappointment subject to availability of extramural funds.
