incarcerated abused/neglected as children
Dear Cathy Hamill,
The National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information has
several studies in its collection that provide information on
convicted men and/or women with histories of child abuse/neglect. A
few of the titles include:
"Reports of Severe Physical Punishment and Exposure to Animal Cruelty
by Inmates Convicted of Felonies and by University Students"
Miller, K.S.; Knutson, J.F.
1997
Child Abuse and Neglect
"Comparison of the LIfe Experiences and Personal Functioning of Men
and Women in Prison"
Sheridan, M.J.
1996
Families in Society
"Sexual Abuse Histories of Sexual Offenders"
Dhawan, S.; Marshall, W.L.
1996
Sexual Abuse: A Journal of Research and Treatment
"Evidence for Long-Term, Specific Effects of Childhood Abuse and
Neglect on Criminal Behavior in Men"
Dutton, D.G.; Hart, S.D.
1992
International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology
For additional titles, please visit our web site. Our entire
documents database of over 23,000 titles is searchable via our
site at: http://www.calib.com/nccanch. Please select menu item
"online databases and directories". I think that you will find the
database to be quite user friendly.
Also, the Bureau of Justice Statistics has a report entitled "Child
Victimizers: Violent Offenders and their Victims". This report has
a statistical chart, Prior physical or sexual abuse experienced by
violent offenders, by age of victim, that provides data in
percentages. This report can be downloaded from their web site at:
http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs. You can also call their toll-free
number to oder the report: (800)732-3277.
I hope that I have provided some useful information.
Sincerely,
Sandi McLeod
