PROGRAM EVALUATION AND FAMILY VIOLENCE RESEARCH: AN
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Sponsored by The Family Research Laboratory
University of New Hampshire
Sunday - Wednesday, July 26-29, 1998
New England Center, Durham, NH, USA
AIMS OF THE CONFERENCE
In its continuing series of international conferences on Family
Violence Research, the Family Research Laboratory invites you to a
conference with a special focus on program evaluation research. In
recent years, as the family violence research field has grown and
matured, an increasing number of investigators have devoted
themselves to looking at prevention and intervention programs. Such
programs include: home visitation programs to strengthen parenting
and reduce child abuse risk, treatment programs to stop domestic
violence, and school programs to teach sexual assault or dating
violence prevention or alternatives to peer aggression. Other
research efforts have focused on evaluating new public policies, like
mandatory arrests or family reunifications, in state agencies, in
local communities and in the military.
PROGRAM TOPICS
This conference is intended to be a forum to exchange findings and
innovations regarding such program evaluations and to help improve
the general quality of this work. We invite papers and panels based
on a broad range of topics that relate to program evaluation:
Design issues in program evaluation and family violence
Theoretical frameworks to inform evaluations

ABSTRACTS
Submission Deadline: FEBRUARY 1, 1998
Abstracts can be submitted at our website:
http://www.unh.edu/frl
In reviewing abstracts, priority will be given to topics related to
evaluation. Research and theory on general family violence topics
will be accepted if space is available and if they include
consideration of the implications for program evaluation. Papers
that describe programs, but that contain no evaluation data,
will not be accepted.
The program will also feature a number of pre-conference workshops
to provide training and more in-depth consideration of key program
evaluation research issues.
CONFERENCE SETTING
The New England Center, the setting for the conference, is
surrounded by woods on the beautiful campus of the University of
New Hampshire in Durham. This pituresque area is located an
hour north of Boston, Massachusetts, and close to the White
Mountains of New Hampshire. It is only minutes away from the
seacoast of New Hampshire and Maine. Nearby are charming towns
such as Portsmouth and Exeter, New Hampshire, that offer
excellent restaurants and shopping, and interesting historical
