treatment for abusive parents

Dear Janet Chiancone,

I saw your message on the Cornell listserv. Have you seen the
journal article by D. J. Kolko, Nov. 1996, "Individual Cognitive
Behavioral Treatment and Family Therapy for Physically Abused
Children and Their Offending Parents: A Comparison of Clinical
Outcomes"? It resulted from an NCCAN funded grant, 90CA1459, and it
appeared in the journal "Child Maltreatment", 1 (4): 322-342.

In conducting a preliminary search of our database, I also found a
few citations that may be of interest to you. One is a
chapter, "The Assessment and Treatment of Violent Families" by
Blau, Dall, and Anderson, 1993, in a book entitled, "Family
Violence. Prevention and Treatment//Issues in Children's and
Families' Lives" edited by Hampton, Gullotta, Adams, Potter, and
Weissberg.

Another is a journal article, "Preliminary Results of Aggression
Management Training for Aggressive Parents" by Acton and During,
1992, in the "Journal of Interpersonal Violence".

And, finally, there is a chapter, "Treating Abusive Parents in
Outpatient Settings" by Otto, 1990, in a book entitled "The Clinical
Treatment of the Clinical Offender in Outpatient Mental Health
Settings: New and Emerging Perspectives", edited by Pallone and
Chaneles.
