evaluations of school-based prevention programs
I am working on a research project for the US Dept of Ed on School Based
Delinquency Programs and have read a number of evaluations of school-based
prevention programs. Two excellent resources are:
1) Gottfredson, D.C. (1997). School-Based Crime Prevention. In Sherman,
L.W., Gottfredson, D.C., MacKenzie, D., Eck, J., Reuter, P., and Bushway,
S. Preventing Crime: What Works, What Doesn't, What's Promising: A Report
to the United States Congress. (I believe this can be down loaded from the
Department of Justice's website.)
2) Tolan, P., and Guerra, N. (1994). What works in reducing adolescent
violence: An empirical review of the field. Boulder, CO: The Center for the
Study and Prevention of Violence, Institute for Behavioral Studies,
University of Colorado.
Some other good sources are:
1) "Reason to Hope" edited by Leonard Eron put out by APA in '94
2) the Hawkins Catalano web site (http://weber.u.washington.edu/~sdrg/).
They are doing quite a lot in the prevention field.
3) Del Elliot's Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at U CO
(303 492-8465).
Finally, a recent JAMA (277, 20.) had an evaluation of a program and
Rosenberg, M. L., Powell, K. E. & Hammond, R wrote a nice editorial.
Feel free to call if you'd like more information.
