*moderated* Child-Abuse-L

Dear Child-Maltreatment-Research-L subscribers:

This is to inform you that the listserv, Child-Abuse-L@CORNELL.EDU, is now
a moderated list. All submissions are reviewed to see if they conform to
our areas of discussion and our topics of concern:

(1) Discussion is confined to professional support and professional
development, mutual problem-solving, and exploration of policy and
operational concerns and innovations from the professional's perspective.

(2) Topics are confined to all aspects of identification, investigation,
treatment and prevention of *familial* occurances of child abuse and
neglect in contemporary cases.

Child-Abuse-L (MODERATED) should now become the "practice-oriented" list,
Child-Maltreatment-Research-L (MODERATED) continues to provide the
"research-oriented" focus and
SIGCA-MD-L (CLOSED) continues to handle the "medical/clinical" aspects.

While many other topics and discussions are considered important,
Child-Abuse-L has taken the narrow direction of focus on current practice
issues in the field of parental abuse and neglect of children.

Other listservs may be needed. If significant numbers of people request, we
will be willing to develop other listserves to meet other needs, but we do
not want to duplicate what is already out there. For instance, in a survey
of our list of approximately 250 subscribers, we found that there is some
interest in
(1) Parent-perceived barriers to adoption and foster care,
(2) Advocacy for radical change in the CPS system,
(3) help for families having conflict with the CPS system,
(4) help for parents involved in custody battles where abuse is alleged,
(5) professional exploration of cult and satanic abuse issues,
(6) concern with school, day care, and institutional abuse of children,
(7) Issues faced by adult survivors of abuse and neglect, including adult
recall, re-traumatization, PTSD and other disorders.

If members of this list are aware of listservs that already cover these
topics, I'd appreciate e-mail mailto:tph3@cornell.edu including both the
mailing address and the subscription instructions for any list related to
the broad field we serve. I will summarize replies and send the results
back to this list.

This is also an invitation to members of this list to join (or re-join!)
the new, moderated Child-Abuse-L list. To do so, send a message to
Listproc@Cornell.edu and in the message area write:
