Research needed on wives of pedophiles
I recently posted a question to this and a few other mailing lists asking
if there were any published research on the frequency with which pedophiles
turn out to have married women who themselves report histories of sexual
abuse. Nobody came up with any references, but I did receive numerous
anecdotal reports from therapists indicating that this scenario was
frequent in the writer's own experience. I also received information from
several abuse survivors indicating that this scenario had either taken
place in the own marriage or in that of the family members of abused
sister(s).
But it would sure be handy to have some research documenting that this
occurs. I mention this because I'm getting the impression that lawyers
defending accused pedophiles have taken to undermining the credibility of
their clients' wives by claiming that the wives' history of sexual abuse
makes them prone to find sexual abuse where there is none.
