Re: Human Subjects Review/Offending Populations



I'm having similar ethical/legal dilemmas regarding identifying current
abuse in the course of collecting data.  I too have considered having
someone else collect the data from structured interviews to put some
distance between myself (a nurse--and I assume a mandated reporter) and
the subjects, thus hoping to avoid the reporting issue.  This however,
still does not "feel" right--neither neglecting the responsibility to
protect children, nor jeopardizing the opportunity to collect valuable
data which could contribute to a more complete understanding of the
problem.  Our roles as researchers and as clinicians are in conflict.

I'd like to hear how others have settled this ethical tension for
themselves.  Also--could someone remind me which categories of
professionals are mandated reporters?
