Research on child prostitution

With regard to child prostitution research, we are nearing completion
of a study entitled, Program to Increase Understanding of Child Sexual
Exploitation, funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention. This study looked at child prostitution and pornography
in this country: who the victims are, and how the juvenile justice
     and child protection agencies respond.

An "Assessment Report" was submitted to the funder in April 1994,
summarizing the available literature, statutory framework, secondary
analyses of two large data sets on prosecution of child sexual abuse,
and results of national surveys of police departments and
youth-serving agencies. The final report, which will include the
findings of original research involving case record abstractions and
interviews with youth utilizing shelters in three large cities, should
be completed within the next month or so.

Also, we have been developing materials and training for the Office
for Victims of Crime and OJJDP to encourage multijurisdictional and
interdisciplinary collaboration in investigating cases of child sexual
exploitation. Our first-year product--Child Sexual Exploitation:
Improving Investigations and Protecting Victims: A Blueprint for
Action--is available on the Dept. of Justice web site on the Internet.
We're now in the process of developing a "best practices" manual to
showcase multijurisdictional teams operating in 5 major cities.

For reviews of literature on psychological impact of prostitution, I
would refer you to the theme papers prepared for the World Congress
Against Child Sexual Exploitation last August. They can be accessed
     on the Internet at http://193.135.156.14/webpub/csechome/default.htm.

We'd like to learn more about your work in this area as well.

We are involved in some international health projects dealing with childhood
prostitution around the world. Does anybody know of the following:
1. Research on the psychological impact of prostitution on children currently
   engaged in this activity.

2. Intervention programs with child prostitutes

We would very much like to hear from you.
