sexual harrassment and abuse
I am currently convening a working party on sexual harrassment and
abuse in the Methodist Church which aims to recommend some clear
policies and guidelines around abusers and their role in the church
after an offence (not necessarily following criminal proceedings).
This is based on considerable prior work on the care of children in
the church. I would like some assistance with any references to cross
over behaviour between abusers/harrasers who offend against children
and those who offend against adults. Our current proposal is for a
lifetime ban on people offending against children holding office in the church but needless
to say there are strong and powerful voices against this! (the
repentance lobby is very active!). We are less sure about those who
offend against adults.
