National Child Abuse and Neglect Data System State Level Data
(NCANDS State), FFY- 2010
Dataset Number: 166
Investigator(s): Children's Bureau, U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services
Abstract: The National Child Abuse and Neglect
Data System, State Level Data (NCANDS State), FFY- 2010 dataset
consists of State-specific data of all investigated reports of
maltreatment to State child protective service agencies. The NCANDS
is a federally-sponsored national data collection effort created for
the purpose of tracking the volume and nature of child maltreatment
reporting each year within the United States. These data are
collected within the federal fiscal year (FFY October 1, 2009 –
September 30, 2010) rather than the calendar year.
State Level records are reported for 51 cases (49 states, Washington
DC, and Puerto Rico) through the Agency File, and records for one
case (Oregon) were contributed through Summary Data Component (SDC)
forms. Data on funding of services, number of children screened out,
number of Child Protective Services staff, preservation services,
reunification, and child fatalities are included.
Version Notice: The Combined Aggregate File (CAF) of past
years is not archived for FFY2009 or FFY2010. In its place are
Agency and SDC files. These are the source files used in conjunction
with the NCANDS Child File to derive past CAF variables.
