How to Order from 
the National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect (NDACAN)

1. Determine if the data will suit your needs.
Potential users are encouraged to browse our List of Holdings to identify datasets of interest. Users should download and read the dataset's user's guide to determine if the data will suit their needs. The NDACAN staff can answer questions about the user's guides and provide general direction about the suitability of a dataset for your research question. Please submit your questions in writing to NDACAN User Support

2. Submit your mailing address using this on-line form
We will ship to the address you provide through this on-line form. You only need to submit your mailing address once: future orders will ship to the address on file. If you need to report a changed address, e-mail the change to NDACAN@cornell.edu.

3. Complete, print, and sign a Terms of Use Agreement for *each* dataset you want to receive.

NDACAN requires that all users sign and submit a completed Terms of Use Agreement prior to receiving a dataset. This policy is designed to protect the confidentiality of the study subjects and organizations represented in our holdings. The signed original must be mailed in: faxes or photocopies are not acceptable.
  IMPORTANT NOTE: NSCAW, NCANDS Child File, NCANDS DCDC, and LONGSCAN datasets have separate ordering instructions and license forms. Please refer to their respective ordering pages.

4. Mail the signed Terms of Use Agreement(s) to:

General Dataset Information
All NDACAN data files are distributed on MS Windows compatible media and include on-line documentation and installation instructions. Documentation for most datasets consists of a user’s guide, codebook, original instruments, and references to relevant publications. The NDACAN staff will assist you with any technical problems you encounter while using the data: please submit your questions in writing to NDACAN User Support.

Student Orders:
Please note that all undergraduate students require submitting a cover letter containing a statement of support from a supervising faculty member. The supervising faculty member’s signature is required on the Terms of Use Agreement where indicated.

Classroom Instruction:
Instructors who wish to order a dataset for use in the classroom must submit a Classroom Terms of Use Agreement to be signed by the entire class before data can be sent. Please contact NDACAN for a copy of this form.

Media Type:
Data files are distributed on CD-R or DVD+R media.

File Format:
All data files are distributed in SPSS and SAS compatible formats. Some datasets are distributed as text files with import statements for SAS, SPSS, and STATA.

Terms of Use Agreement
All NDACAN datasets are distributed solely for the purposes of statistical research and reporting. Attempting to use these datasets to identify individuals is a violation of federal law.  Please read the Terms of Use Agreement (PDF) carefully and make a copy for your records. Your signature on this document indicates that you understand the terms of the Agreement and will comply with all of its provisions. Please note that undergraduate students also require the supervising faculty member’s signature on the Terms of Use Agreement (PDF).
